Shots Fired At Party Bus With Rap Group On Board

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A rap group was involved in a highway shootout early Friday morning that ended with one person in the hospital, according to The Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the Atlanta-based group "Migos" was set to perform at Cafe Iguana in Pembroke Pines Thursday night but didn't go on stage and early Friday morning ended up at Jackson Memorial Hospital after a shooting on I-95.

"A dark vehicle pulled alongside and basically opened fire on them," said Trooper Joe Sanchez with FHP.

Sanchez told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "From all the bullets that were fired on I-95, it's amazing that bystanders were not hurt. Just one person was injured."

D'Oench also spoke with a friend of the rappers who are staying at a hotel on Miami Beach. That friend who did not want to give his name, said he was inside the van when the shooting happened and said the group's bodyguard was wounded in the leg while he returned fire with the criminals.

The friend said the trio of rappers are ok but did not want to comment right now.

FHP said some type of disagreement stopped the performance.

"They were scheduled top open there and for whatever reason there was a misunderstanding and they left the club," said Sanchez. "We don't know if this resulted from an altercation at the club or maybe it was road rage."

Migos left the club and around 3:30 a.m. in a party van with eight people, including the groups entourage. They were traveling along I-95 near the 62nd Street exit when a car pulled up next to the bus and opened fire, shooting at least a dozen rounds.

The group's bodyguard fired back.

"An exchange of gunfire because one of the passengers in that van was carrying his personal weapon and he returned fire," said Sanchez.

After the incident, the rappers posted a photo on their Instagram account saying the streets were a "jungle and you got to survive."

The bodyguard was shot in the leg and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. No one else on was injured and no description of the other car involved has been released.

A representative with the group's record label said none of the three band members was shot.

A manager at Cafe Iguana Pines said Migos was never scheduled to perform.

Migos announced it was cancelling a scheduled performance Friday in Broward at Club 54.

If you have any information about the shooting, call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

"We are asking that anyone who was out there on I-95 at 3:30 in the morning to call Crimestoppers if they have any information," said Sanchez.
