Boy Lied About Plantation Abduction Attempt

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – A 12-year old boy's story to police about a man who tried to abduct him from a popular Plantation park turns out to be a hoax.

Last Friday, the boy told police he was walking in Central Park when a man drove up next to him in an SUV, got out of the vehicle, grabbed him and told him to get in his car.

Plantation police Detective Philip Toman said the boy told them he fought off his attacker with a tennis racket which he pulled from his backpack.

At the time, police said there were no witnesses or surveillance video and they're surprised something like this could happen near the tennis center in Central Park which is usually very crowded.

As their investigation into the attempted abduction continued, police realized the boy was lying and nothing had occurred in the park.

No charges have been filed but the boy's family has arranged for counseling.
