Grandfather Of Hit & Run Victim Calls Suspect "A Menace"
POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) - A South Florida driver is credited with helping to find an accused hit-and-run driver.
Friday night, 30-year-old Ben Pirofsky was killed while riding his motorcycle on Federal highway in Pompano Beach.
BSO said 42-year-old Nadia Verdoni turned into his path at NE 4th street and kept going.
Thomas Stanley saw the crash and followed Verdoni.
"At first she said I didn't hit anybody," said Stanley. "Then I showed her the tail light and said you are gonna tell me you didn't do it. I saw you do it."
Stanley said Verdoni promised to go back to the accident scene but never did.
He had taken a photo of her plate and turned it over to investigators.
Verdoni was arrested and charged with DUI manslaughter and four other offenses.
She was given a bond just under twenty five thousand dollars which she posted and was released from jail.
That has angered Pirofsky's family. "She can do it again. She can flee. How come they let her out?"
Grandfather Irving Pirofsky told CBS4's Joan Murray.
Pirofsky, a World War two veteran is grieving his loss.
"I'm 95 years old. A grandparent isn't supposed to lose a grandson".
Pirofsky's coworkers at Vista VW are also shaken.
He was a finance manager everyone adored.
"He was in the process of selling his bike. He wanted one final spin," said sales manager William Howard.
CBS4 could not reach Verdoni for comment.
No one answered at her Pompano home over the weekend or on Monday.
