MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The University of Miami family is dealing with a double dose of bad news Wednesday. Former player JoJo Nicolas remains in critical condition after a car accident on the MacArthur Causeway Tuesday. Late Tuesday, word emerged that a current offensive lineman is also in the hospital.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Hunter Knighton is unconscious and in University of Miami hospital after a workout session at the school on Monday.

The Herald reported that Knighton’s family is with him, but that details of what specifically happened to the lineman haven’t been revealed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter Knighton and his family at this time, though we are encouraged by the prognosis. We look forward to his return to normal activities as soon as his health permits,” the athletic department said in a statement released Tuesday night.

Knighton missed all of last season after having shoulder surgery and was a three-star offensive tackle when he signed with the Canes in 2012.
