Crooks Crash Into Hialeah Verizon Store
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – For the second time in as many days, a cellphone store has been targeted in a smash and grab burglary.
Hialeah police said the burglars used a vehicle to smash into the glass front of a Verizon store at 16th Avenue and 49th Street overnight. When police arrived they found shattered glass on the ground and the store's front doors and security barrier pushed in.
Police said merchandise was taken, but no dollar amount has been released.
On Tuesday, two cellphone stores were broken into.
The first – a Sprint store at 3080 NE 41st Terrace in Homestead. After kicking in the glass front doors, two guys, captured on surveillance, crawled through broken glass while a third person stayed outside.
While one of the guys went after cellphones, wildly yanking them from displays, his accomplice went after tablets. They're not inside the store for long, though as something appears to spook them about 31 seconds into their heist and they both run for the exit.
Two hours and 20 minutes later, 50 miles north at Sheridan Plaza in Hollywood, two guys fitting the same description, struck a T-Mobile store.
The suspects used their car to smash the front window. In this heist, police said the crooks moved fast, wasting no time grabbing anything they could.
Police in Hollywood and Homestead are comparing notes and surveillance video to see if it's the same smash and grab crooks in both cases.
