Report: Lobbyist Drawing Up Legislation To Ban Gays In NFL

WASHINGTON (CBSMiami) – Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam inspired millions when he came out as homosexual before the 2014 NFL Draft. But, he also inspired those who oppose homosexuals to try to take drastic action.

According to TheHill.com, a lobbyist in Washington is preparing legislation that would ban any gay athlete from joining the National Football League. Jack Burkman told TheHill.com that he has already picked up political support for the bill.

Burkman told TheHill.com Sam's revelation was what helped him come up with the idea for the legislation. He told TheHill.com that "if the NFL has no morals and no values, then Congress must find values for it."

The legislation has little to no chance of ever passing in Congress, or finding a sponsor. Even if it did somehow make it through the House of Representatives, it would be killed in the Senate.

Sam's decision to come out was hailed by many including First Lady Michelle Obama. If Sam is drafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, he will become the first openly gay player in the history of the National Football League.
