WASHINGTON (CBSMiami) – Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam inspired millions when he came out as homosexual before the 2014 NFL Draft. But, he also inspired those who oppose homosexuals to try to take drastic action.
According to TheHill.com, a lobbyist in Washington is preparing legislation that would ban any gay athlete from joining the National Football League. The legislation has little to no chance of ever passing in Congress, or finding a sponsor. Sam’s decision to come out was hailed by many including First Lady Michelle Obama. If Sam is drafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, he will become the first openly gay player in the history of the National Football League.
