CBS Hires Tony Gonzalez, Marino & Sharpe Out

NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – The NFL Today on CBS will have a new look this fall when the league kicks off again. CBS has hired future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez as an analyst for The NFL Today.

While Gonzalez will be bringing a fresh new perspective from a player who retired just last year, the move will also bring to an end Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe's time on The NFL Today on CBS.

"While we welcome Tony, we want to acknowledge Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe who have contributed greatly to the success of THE NFL TODAY for more than a decade," said CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus. "Dan and Shannon are true Hall of Famers on the field and in front of the camera. As they pursue other professional opportunities, we thank them for their hard work and dedication and wish them nothing but the best."

According to the Sports Business Journal, CBS is close to hiring one more NFL pregame analyst before the season.

Marino briefly left television in 2004 to take a job with the Dolphins as a vice-president, but left the job after just a few weeks to return to working his television job.

The question now is will the Miami Dolphins, who are under an ugly cloud of scandal in the wake of the Ted Wells report, reach out to Marino for a new role with the team? The two sides have talked in the past, but nothing has come of those talks.
