SUV Flies Off I-95, Lands On Street Below
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A freak accident created headaches for drivers on I-95 Thursday morning when an SUV went over a guard rail.
The woman behind the wheel of a Ford Explore was heading north on the highway when she lost control, went over the rail and ended up upside down on NW 17th Street.
Witnesses told police the woman was trying to avoid a box on the highway when she lost control. Miami Fire Rescue said the accident could have been much worse.
"Where the vehicle landed, it was impaled by a post a couple of inches away from the sidewalk which is heavily traveled by student who are walking to school," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated for facial and head injuries.
