Dade Animal Services Holds Adoption Week Event

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade residents thinking about get a new furry friend can get a deal this week from the county's Animal Services Department.

The Open Your Heart and Your Home Pet Adoption Week kicked off Saturday and runs through Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Animal Services shelter. At reduced adoption fees, people who want to adopt a pet can "take home a furry valentine that is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go to a forever home," according to a statement from Animal Services.

"Spaying or neutering of pets and adoption of shelter cats and dogs are crucial to the efforts being made to reduce the number of unwanted animals in the county and help Miami-Dade Animal Services achieve its no-kill goal," said Miami-Dade Commissioner Esteban Bovo, Jr. in a statement.

Spaying and neutering services are offered by the county by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for dogs, call 3-1-1. To schedule an appointment for cats, call 305-233-9958, or email meowmobile@thecatnetwork.
