White House Must Respond To Deport Bieber Petition
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Should Justin Bieber be deported? The White House will have to weigh in on the matter after more than 100,000 people signed a petition on the White House website.
The internationally acclaimed, and reviled, pop star was arrested last week on Miami Beach for charges including DUI, resisting arrest and having an expired driver's license. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bieber is living on an O-1 visa issued to people with "extraordinary ability or achievement in their field."
The charges against Bieber won't affect his immigration status, according to the Associated Press, but that hasn't stopped the momentum behind the online petition. The petition reads:
"We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations (sic) youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."
Bieber is set to be arraigned in Miami-Dade County Court on February 14, but may not attend the hearing, instead letting his attorney, Roy Black, handle the proceedings.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, more than 106,000 people had signed the White House petition to deport Bieber.
