SUNNY ISLES (CBSMiami) — A man died Saturday after jumping into a North Miami Beach canal, allegedly trying to escape police.
Miami-Dade police are investigating. According to Detective Elena Hernandez, Sunny Isles Beach police conducted a traffic stop just before 5:30 Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Biscayne Boulevard and NE 163rd Street.READ MORE: BSO Searching For Tamarac Burglar Claiming To Be Deputy

Police say the handcuffed man then took off, ran across Biscayne Boulevard and jumped into a canal.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released his name, age, or the circumstances surrounding the traffic stop.
