FIU Holds Off FAU 66-57

MIAMI (AP) — Dennis Mavin turned a Jerome Frink steal into a three-point play with 39 seconds left as Florida International held on to defeat Florida Atlantic 66-57 Saturday.

FAU had trimmed a 10-point deficit to 5 with 90 seconds left but on its second chance to get closer Frink stole the ball and fed Mavin for the back-breaker.

Pablo Bertone hit four 3-pointers to lead Florida Atlantic (7-13, 2-3) with 19 points. Justin Raffington added 12 and 10 rebounds.

Florida International led 34-24 at halftime and enjoyed that lead well into the second half before the Owls came back. Bertone hit a 3 to pull FAU within 49-37 with 8:47 left.
