Driver Killed And An Officer Seriously Injured In Hialeah Crash

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – A Hialeah intersection was shut down Friday morning following a police-involved accident that killed one person and injured an officer.

According to police, four-year veteran officer Robert Morales had the green light when a silver Nissan SUV crashed into Hialeah Police SUV at the intersection of W. 8th Avenue and 49th Street just after 6:00 a.m.

Both drivers were transported via air rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but the driver of the Nissan died.

Morales remains in serious condition.

"There were plenty of people traveling on the road at the same time the accident occurred some people were interviewed and asked questions so they'll help us piece together the actual accident," said Eddie Rodriguez with the Hialeah Police Department.

The names of the officer or person who died have not been released.

The intersection is open.
