Miami Gardens Residents Rally For Peace Amid Recent Shootings

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- More than 100 residents showed up to a rally for peace in Miami Gardens Saturday  to show that they are all in one accord despite recent violence in their neighborhood.

"As a mother I'm afraid to send my kids out because I don't know if they are going to come home," said Yolanda West, a mother.

West along with another residents are hopeful they can change that.

West  was one of more than a hundred people who showed up for the peace rally Saturday but as those residents were rallying for peace  a teen was shot multiple times Saturday  afternoon near NE 195 Street and North Miami Ave. He is in critical condition being treated at Ryder Trauma Center.

Friday afternoon another person was gunned down and 48 hours before that a 16-year old was shot and killed in a resident's front yard.

In response to the recent shootings, the mayor of Miami Gardens Oliver Gilbert says he is confident they will be able to turn things around but it will take some time.
