PLANT CITY (CBSMiami) — Florida Governor Rick Scott along with his wife greeted Florida Army National Guard troops as they arrived home Sunday.
Back in December, Governor Scott issued a challenge, via Twitter, to major Florida retailers to help raise $35,000 to support these troops returning from deployment for the holidays.READ MORE: Hackers Publish Nearly 26,000 Stolen Broward Schools Files
According to the governor’s office, ten Florida retailers answered raised enough money to bring the soldiers home for the holidays.READ MORE: Florida House Set To Expand School Vouchers; Opponents: Expansion Would Shrink Public School Funding
The troops were flown into Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and bused to Florida to be with their families for Christmas.
After Christmas, the troops were taken back to Camp Shelby to complete their final demobilization interview process, as required by the Department of Defense for all returning soldiers.MORE NEWS: COVID In Florida: 5,645 New Cases, 67 Deaths Reported On Tuesday
The approximately 300 troops returned home to their families Sunday.
