Women Arrested For Theft, Child Neglect

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) –- Officers in Broward County arrested two women for allegedly stealing from Wal-Mart and because the crime was committed while they were caring for children, they were also charged with child neglect.

Sandra Guadalupe Chavez, 28, and Veronica Arafon Rivera, 32, of Davie were arrested at the Wal-Mart located at 4700 S. Flamingo Road.

According to court documents, a loss-prevention employee at the store noticed the women taking merchandise past the register without paying.

The documents stated Rivera placed the items in a "baby bag". They were reportedly worth $81.62.

Chavez was also seen by the loss-prevention employee taking items inside of a "baby bag" worth $50.26.

Both women were said to not be in the United States legally and had WIC cards and cash in their possession.

A judge set the two women's bonds at $1,100.
