Funeral Service For Father, Daughter Killed In Fiery Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Funeral services were held Monday for a father and daughter who died in a fiery crash on Okeechobee Road.

Family and friends of 47-year old Arturo Montenegro and his 6-year old daughter Norvell attended a special mass at Funeraria Latina Emanuel on W Dixie Highway in North Miami before they were laid to rest.

On Sunday a vigil was held at the crash site.

"They were a great part in our community, they were always there for us," said Stephanie Otero, a former co-worker of Montenegro. "Everybody is just sad. It truly hurts."

The accident which claimed their lives happened Wednesday, Dec. 18th, around 8:30 pm. The Florida Highway Patrol said a northbound BMW driven by 29-year-old Miguel Gonzalez lost control near the Turnpike, crossed the median and hit Montenegro's Honda Civic head on.

Gonzalez was killed. His father, 56-year old Lazaro Palacio, who was in the car with him also died.

FHP said Gonzalez was speeding but do not believe alcohol was a factor.
