New Liger Cubs At Jungle Island

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There's some new additions to the Jungle Island family with a little bit of a funny name.

Jungle Island unveiled the newest ligers at the facility Monday. The cream-colored cubs are a hybrid of a male African white lion named Ivory and a snow white Bengal tiger named Saraswati.

The ligers' first appearance was for the boys of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence group on Monday.

The group spent the afternoon on Jungle Island as apart of their annual holiday celebration. Not only did the group meet the liger cubs; they were also able to visit other animal ambassadors and get a visit with Santa Claus.

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence was founded by then Miami-Dade County School Board Member Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson. The project's mission is to intervene in the lives of at-risk boys in order to provide them with alternatives that will lead them away from a life of crime and violence.
