Central Florida Woman Escapes Bear Attack

LONGWOOD (CBSMiami/AP) — A central Florida woman took on more than she could bear Monday night in Longwood.

What Susan Chalfant thought would be just another night out walking her dogs turned into a scary situation when she was attacked by a bear.

Chalfant was able to escape and ran to a neighbor's home for help and the neighbor called 911, according to authorities.

When rescue crews arrived, they said they found the woman bleeding from the head.

She was then taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where her condition was not immediately available.

Officials say the dogs were not injured and the bear got away.

Several bear sightings have been reported in the area.

Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were patrolling the neighborhood where Chalfant was hurt. A trap was set up in the yard where the bear was last seen.
