Heat Player Hands Out Thanksgiving Meals To S.Fla. Families

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat Guard Ray Allen gave back to the community Sunday by providing Thanksgiving meals for South Florida families.

The 10-time NBA All-Star and 2-time NBA Champion handed out full Thanksgiving meals for 250 pre-selected Amigos for Kids families at Jose Marti Park.

Each non-cooked meal included a turkey, gravy, stuffing, russet potatoes, cranberry sauce, salad, green beans, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie and Coca-Cola beverages.

The team as a whole provided Thanksgiving meals earlier this week.

On Friday, the Miami Heat  hosted their 22nd annual Thanksgiving celebration.

The three-time champs, along with the team's coaches and front office employees, attended the event that was held at the Miami Rescue Mission.

Residents in the area were invited to enjoy the block party carnival, but for a select group of about 600 underprivileged families, the day was extra meaningful as they each received an entire Thanksgiving meal with all the trimming from the Miami Heat, courtesy Florida Blue.

Also, at the event, National Deli provided over 1,000 hot dogs to the community's general public.
