Miami Book Fair International Kicks Off Sunday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The 30th annual Miami Book Fair International kicks off Sunday with an inaugural ceremony at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami.

The week long book fair features some of the world's top authors, creators, entertainers, thinkers, and leaders.

At this year's opening ceremony, His Royal Highness The Prince of Asturias Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos will officially inaugurate the Fair and address the audience.

The Prince of Asturias is the historical and official title given to the heir to the Spanish throne. Felipe is the only son of King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Sofía.  Spain is the featured country at this year's Fair.

The inaugural ceremony will also feature musical performances by Suite Hispania, a music and dance ensemble that offers an innovative interpretation to the music and dances of Spain.

The inauguration is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available at MDC Wolfson Campus's parking garage, 500 N.E. 2nd Ave. (entrances at N.E. 5th and 6th St.), and with free shuttle service to the theater and back.

Following the inauguration, bestselling author Dan Brown will present his new book, Inferno, at 7:30 p.m., at the Gusman Center. Ticket is $15.

Cervantes Prize-winner Jorge Edwards will discuss his new book, Los círculos morados at 8 p.m., at the Wolfson Campus Auditorium (Building 1, second floor). This event is free.

The 30th Miami Book Fair International runs through November 24. The popular Street Fair, featuring hundreds of exhibitors and vendors, will take place Nov. 22 - 24.

Miami Book Fair International is the largest and finest literary gathering in America. It is the premier event of The Center for Literature and Theatre at Miami Dade College.
