South Floridians Help Typhoon Haiyan Victims

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – South Floridians are doing what they can to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Employees at Memorial Health Care Systems are able to donate to relief efforts through payroll deductions.

Employees with the Veteran's Administration Medical Facilities are being given the option to take time off to actually go to the Philippines to help.

And the Filipino Aid Organization Gawad Kalinga, which translates to "giving care", is  holding a charity golf tournament in Hollywood at Hillcrest Country Club.   The golf tournament takes place on Friday, December 13th.  For more information, call at (954) 987-5000 or click here.

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra released a public service announcement asking people to give to UNICEF and help with typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines. Spoelstra's mother is from the Philippines, which was devastated when Typhoon Haiyan struck -- killing more than 2-thousand people, displacing hundreds of thousands and leaving enormous numbers of Filipinos homeless, hungry and thirsty.
