Found: "Maverick" The Missing Sweetwater Police Horse

SWEETWATER (CBSMiami) – A Sweetwater police horse, missing since April, has been found.

"Maverick" disappeared after arriving in Miami this spring. He was located Thursday following a tip from a confidential source. According to Sweetwater Police, the horse was found at the private home of a former city employee, who has yet to be named.

The horse has been taken to a local veterinarian for a complete checkup.

Maverick was purchased from Asbury University in Kentucky, with funds donated to the police department by area citizens and businesses. He was bought to be part of a mounted patrol unit that would patrol Dolphin Mall, especially during the busy holidays.

Sweetwater Police Chief Jesus Menocal said he is glad the horse was located and is supporting the implementation of a mounted patrol unit.

Maverick's trainer from Asbury University told investigators that she would be coming to Sweetwater to help Maverick transition into public service. His first tour of duty has yet to be determined.
