Broward Fatherhood Mentorship Program Attracting Big Names

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A new fatherhood mentorship program in Broward County is targeting men in at-risk communities and will bring in some big names Wednesday to help get the campaign rolling.

Former University of Miami and NFL stars Michael Irvin and Warren Sapp are expected to attend the "Me and My Dad Challenge" event scheduled to take place at Joseph C. Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale.

The non-profit organization Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County is offering the program.

The group says the program provides support to fathers and aims to encourage their involvement beginning at conception and throughout the child's life.

Through educational group sessions, case management and mentor support, this community-based program assists men in developing the attitudes, knowledge and skills that are needed to become and stay involved with their children.
