SeaWorld Warns Of Fishing Hook Dangers To Turtles

ORLANDO (AP) — Fisherman are being urged to dispose of hooks and line properly after SeaWorld Orlando rescued its 59th turtle of the year.

The turtle underwent surgery Friday to remove two fishing hooks from its throat.

The 11-pound turtle was found near Cape Canaveral and will be released back into the wild once it recovers.

SeaWorld advises fishermen to use "circle" hooks since turtles are less likely to swallow them than "'J"-shaped hooks.

The hooks can cause suffocation and internal bleeding if swallowed.
