FSU's Winston Closing In On Heisman

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Any college football fans who hadn't heard of Florida State Seminoles redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston were certainly introduced to him during FSU's 51-14 thrashing of Clemson.

That performance, throwing for 444 yards and three touchdowns against a Top 10 team, has not only propelled the Seminoles into the Top 5 in the nation; it's also pushed Winston into the top two on Heismanpundit.com's Straw Poll.

The latest straw poll has Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota at the top spot with 22 points, including five first place votes. Winston is just behind Mariota with 20 points and four first place votes. Following those two are Johnny Manziel, Bryce Petty, Jordan Lynch, and Sean Mannion.

The straw poll is 10 anonymous Heisman voters from across the country who send in votes each week to Heisman Pundit.

For the year, Winston has thrown for 1,885 yards, has a completion percentage of 71.3 percent, thrown for 20 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Winston, a redshirt freshman, has a quarterback rating of 210.4 and is averaging 314.2 yards passing per game. He's also rushed for 137 yards and three TD's.
