Women Injured In Hit & Run Ask For Driver To Come Forward

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Two women are recovering from an accident and pleading for the driver who fled from the scene to come forward.

Stitched and bruised, shortly after being released from the hospital, Eugenia Piedrahita struggles to sit up and is visibly in pain.  But she finds the strength to tell CBS4's Jamie Guirola what happened Monday when a driver slammed into her SUV and took off without helping.  Her niece, Sharon Rojas translated for CBS4.

"She has a lot of pain and her pressure in her head her neck hurts a lot, her back her body and her elbow is really bad," Piedrahita said, translated by her niece Rojas.

"All of that she can barely move her neck . Her arm, all of that area and there's other areas that we can't show you," said Rojas speaking about Gloria Lemos who was also the car, and in the back seat with her two-year-old baby.  She said that they were on their way home driving on NW 22nd Avenue and 58th Street early Monday evening  when she says they saw a silver or gray newer model Buick Lacrosse run through a stop sign--crashing into them.  Their SUV spun, landing across the street causing their Toyota 4Runner to flip over.

"She was just really scared for her sons life she thought that that was the end that she wasn't going to survive that crash and she was just  very terrified", said Rojas

Pinned underneath the steering wheel, Eugenia was only worried about her grandson.

"All she thought about was the child. She wanted to know that he was OK the child there, the child, the child, the child, not so worried about herself than mainly on the child", said Rojas.

Thankfully, the two-year-old will be fine and only suffered minor injuries.  But Eugenia and Gloria still have a lot of recovery time ahead.  Also, the two expressed disgust that someone could be so irresponsible to take-off and not even try and help.

Rojas translated, "He just left and did not care for their lives and that he should have stopped and checked on them  at least that," adding, "All she wants is for someone that saw or heard anything to come forward and to give information."

The victims are asking the suspect to come forward, if you have any information you're asked to call crime stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
