Special Hearing Held For Man Accused Of Wife's Murder
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Attorneys for a Kendall man accused of killing his wife want a judge to let him out of jail on bail.
During an Arthur hearing, as it's known, at the Miami-Dade Justice Building, Jesus Maqueira's defense attorney, Alexander Michaels, pushed for a judge to release 55-year-old Maqueira.
Michaels says a lack of evidence that he killed his estranged wife, Raquel Calderin, including no body ever found, should allow for Maqueira to await trial for murder while out on bond.
The 43-year-old wife and mother of three vanished on September 4, 2012.
She had moved out of the couple's Kendall home a few months before, filing for divorce and a restraining order.
She was on the phone with her new boyfriend when the call dropped.
She was never heard from or seen again.
Day two of the special hearing continues Tuesday.
