Just before 8:30 p.m., according to Hollywood Police, an officer was responding to a robbery in progress.  Lights and sirens on, the officer was heading east on Johnson near 50th Avenue when it crashed with a BMW.  At the time of impact the police officer veered off the road and hit a house. Neighbors tell us they heard a loud bang and saw the officer get out of his cruiser.

Brett Borek, a witness, said, "From what I saw he injured his leg and he was limping.  He was pulling himself down on the grass, his right leg , he was keeping his right leg elevated."

Lt. Osvaldo Perez, with the Hollywood Police Department, commented on what it's like when a fellow officer was injured.  He said, " We concentrate on what we have to do and that's what we do we come here we focus on what we have to do our duties and we move forward".

The BMW driver and the officer were taken to Memorial Hospital.  It is believed both will be OK.

Lt. Perez told CBS4's Jamie Guirola that the officer injured is young and well-known in the department.
