Small Bomb Explodes Under Car In Plantation

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – The Broward Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad was called in after a small bomb exploded under an unoccupied car in the Townhouses of Jacaranda community

Residents say they heard a loud explosion around 7 p.m. and came running to see what had happened.

The car's owner, Antoin Cadet, said he has no idea why anyone would do such a thing to his car.

"They told me there had been a bomb under my car but I don't know anything about it," said Cadet. "I don't know, I just parked there."

The Bomb Squad, along with Plantation Police and investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms spent hours looking under the car and searching the area surrounding it.

One resident snapped a photo showing an object under the car and a headlight blown out. Investigators spent a lot of time focused on that object. The neighborhood buzzed with rumors of how the bomb might have gotten there.

"There was a guy walking his dog who said that there was a car that went by and threw something under that car over there and drove off," said Kevin Smith.

Police say they're trying to speak to that man. Meanwhile, investigators dusted for fingerprints and searched for clues to solve a bizarre case that is a rare occurrence for police.

"We don't have too many bombs in the city of Plantation," said Police spokesman Philip Toman. "So yes, this is an unusual case."
