Officer Honored For Efforts After Chase And Deadly Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The man who tried to help save a woman after a murder suspect fleeing from police crashed into her car will be honored for his efforts.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz will present a proclamation to Miami-Dade Police Officer Jonathan Dweck Tuesday morning.

Officer Dweck rushed to help Maritza Medina September 18th after she was thrown from her vehicle during Antonio Feliu's attempt to get away from police.

Medina was driving on US 27 when Feliu slammed into her car.   Even as Feliu was being corned by police, Officer Dweck performed CPR on Medina and attempted to get her help.

Unfortunately, Medina died at the scene.

The presentation is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and will take place inside the Board of County Commissioners Chamber located on the second floor of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 N.W. First St.

Officer Dweck joined the Miami-Dade Police Department in February 2003.  He has received numerous commendations throughout his career, including the CAC Officer of the Month for the months of April and September 2013 and the Life Saving Award in April 2013.
