Officials: Small Plane Crashed Into Lake Okeechobee

PAHOKEE (CBSMiami) — Divers have located one victim of a plane crash in Lake Okeechobee.

According to officials with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's office, the plane went down just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

The crash was approximately 200 yards from the Pahokee Marina.

The first calls came in as a boating accident, however, when officials said they arrived on the scene, they discovered an amateur experimental plane submerged in six feet of water.

Divers located one person under the water.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's office said the person was a white man between 50 and 60 years old and from Broward County.

Authorities with the FAA and NTSB are investigating what led to the crash.
