Hialeah Man Arrested For Stabbing Dog

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – A Hialeah man was arrested Thursday evening and charged with the stabbing of a boxer dog in Hialeah on September 13.

According to Hialeah Police, surveillance video captured the man, 39-year-old Jose Cespedes, walking in front of the residence where the dog lived. The dog began barking as Cespedes walked along the fence of the yard.

Police said Cespedes kept walking without any fear of the dog and then removed a knife from his waistband with his right hand and then stabbed the dog in the shoulder. The dog's owner saw the stabbing on the surveillance video and when she went to confront the stabber, he fled, according to Hialeah Police.

The dog reportedly suffered a major injury that required surgery and stitches, according to the police report.

The dog's owner picked Cespedes out of a lineup "without hesitation," and he was arrested. Cespedes told police that he didn't have anything to do with the stabbing.

Cespedes has a violent criminal history including assault and assault with a deadly weapon.

Cespedes is being held on $26,000 bond.
