Police: Child Possibly Missing After 18-Year-Old's Body Was Found

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An 18-year-old woman's body was discovered Saturday morning and detectives fear a child connected to the case may be missing.

Witnesses, according to authorities, saw a commercial truck travelling eastbound on S.W. 288th Street and as it made a left turn at Southwest 144th, what appeared to be a body fell from the passenger side of the truck.

The suspect, according to investigators as told by witnesses, stopped the truck, placed the body back inside, and continued northbound on Southwest 144th Avenue.

Witnesses lost sight of the truck after that.

When officers responded to the area, they discovered the 18-year-old's body in a construction site, according to Miami-Dade Police Department's Homicide Bureau.

The cause of death is unknown.

Witnesses also said they saw a child inside the truck.

"There was a 2 or 3-year-old child which does concern us at this time," said Detective Robin Pinkard with the Miami-Dade Police Department.

It is not clear, according to detectives, how or if the child is related to the woman who is dead.

Neighbors in the area said they're shocked.

"We all know everybody here. We feel safe, but it's scary to have this happen around our neighborhood," said Amanda Castillo, who lives nearby.

Detectives are asking law enforcement and the public to be on the lookout for a white, commercial truck with black rails and writing on the driver-side door.  The cargo bed of the truck, according to authorities, is equipped with a roll up tarp.

The suspect is described by MDPD as a white male in his 30s, 5'9" black hair wearing a dark colored t-shirt with jeans.
