Man Charged In Deadly Plantation Stabbing

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – A Ft. Lauderdale man who stopped by his ex-girlfriend's place to grab a few things ended up being charged with murder after he stabbed a man to death.

When Sherease Williams arrived home at her apartment at 4324 SW 6th Street in Plantation Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m. her ex, 31-year old Michael Backman, was waiting for her. With Williams were her two children and their father 33-year old John Williams Jr.

Sherease Williams let Backman into the apartment where he gathered up a television set and a cushioned stool.

Outside of the apartment, police said Backman pulled out a knife and began to aggressively slash the cushion on top of the stool. Backman then got into a verbal fight with Williams Jr. which turned physical. During the fight Williams Jr. of Riviera Beach was stabbed in the chest. Backman fled the area on his bicycle.

Williams Jr. died on the scene as a result of the sustained stab wound.

Backman was later located hiding under a trailer home in the City of Fort Lauderdale, refusing to surrender. Police used K-9s to get him.

Backman has been charged with 2nd degree murder, aggravated battery and resisting arrest.
