Stolen Parrot Loves To Say "Sonia"

MIAMI (CBS4) – A Miami woman hopes to find her African Grey parrot she claims was stolen from the patio of her home, Monday morning, around 5 a.m.

The bird's name is Cuca. She has red tail and she's between 7 and 10 years old.  Her owner, Sonia Hernandez, says the bird's favorite word to say is her name, "Sonia".

Hernandez' neighbors told her that her Chihuahua said her dogs were barking at whomever took Cuca from the home near Flagler and N.W. 47th Court.

Hernandez said she couldn't hear anything from her bedroom.

The thief or thieves who took Cuca made off with her entire cage, but left behind a food and water bowl.

Hernandez has other birds, but none of the others were taken.

She believes Cuca could fetch more than $1,000 on the black market because of the bird's unique appearance.

"So the most important thing is that if someone sees this bird, they say your name, CBS4's Brian Andrews asked Hernandez.

"Yeah," she Hernandez replied. "And no he doesn't speak English!"

Anyone with information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
