2 Sweetwater Cops & Civilian Worker Relieved Of Duty

SWEETWATER (CBSMiami) – The city of Sweetwater is in the news Wednesday and once again it's for alleged malfeasance at the hands of public officials.

Sweetwater Detective Octavio Oliu, acting Sergeant Reny Garcia, and red-light camera reviewer Richard Brenner were relieved of duty with pay Wednesday.

Sgt. Garcia was named Officer of the Month in Sweetwater in July 2009.

CBS4 has crews in Sweetwater working to determine the reason behind the move.

It's the latest scandal to hit the small city.

Last week, Detective Willie Garcia was suspended without pay after he was arrested on identity theft charges.

Sweetwater officials said Wednesday's actions were not related to the arrest of Garcia on August 28.

A few weeks ago, the city's mayor, Manuel Maroño, was arrested on bribery charges after he was allegedly caught up in a FBI sting on public corruption.
