MIAMI (CBS4) – The clock is ticking for Alex Rodriguez. The baseball superstar with an alleged connection to Biogenesis – a South Florida clinic – and performance enhancing drugs will learn his fate Monday.
On a Sunday afternoon at Marlins Park, some fans had another team on their minds.
“As a Yankee fan I think it’s a disgrace to the uniform,” said Mike Henriquez
Henriquez is talking, about Alex Rodriguez.
Major League Baseball is expected to suspend the game’s highest paid player through the 2014 season based on his alleged involvement with Biogenesis, the South Florida clinic accused of dealing in performance enhancing drugs.
The whole situation is disappointing to many South Florida baseball fans who’ve watched A-Rod’s career.
“He was my favorite player he grew up down here so I used to go see him play when I was younger, honestly you know he kind of brought it upon himself you know,” said Mark Morris.
CBS Sports and USA Today reported Alex Rodriguez plans to file an immediate appeal to the suspension. That appeal would allow him to play Monday night in Chicago, but some South Florida fans say they don’t care if A-Rod ever plays again.
“I could care less he has enough money to stay away,” said Mike Henriquez.
“He’s a role model to a bunch of youngsters and if he’s doing that stuff he shouldn’t be allowed to be displayed on TV and be a role model to kids,” said Marcio Mayorga.
Other fans think a lengthy suspension is too harsh.
“I just think he should get the same penalties as everybody else he’s getting, I guess, a year. I think he’s taking more suspension than everybody else,” Rob Murray told CBS4’s Maggie Newland.
“Everybody’s getting beat up in our society and he hasn’t committed a crime,” said another fan who declined to be named.
Whatever fans think about A-Rod, they will have to wait until Monday to see how it all plays out.
