President Signs Disaster Declaration For Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Relief is on the way for residents in Florida's Panhandle following flooding in July.

President Barack Obama has signed a disaster declaration for Florida.

The declaration means federal funding will be available to state and eligible local governments.

The aid will go toward emergency work and repairing facilities damaged by the storms and flooding in Holmes, Walton and Washington counties.

Gov. Rick Scott requested the disaster declaration. The state estimates there was $29 million worth of damage caused by the heavy rains.

Areas of the Panhandle received over 12 inches of rain between July 2 and July 7, while Walton and Washington counties received nearly 20 inches of rain.
