Man Killed, Woman Hurt, In SW Miami-Dade Hit & Run

HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – One person was killed, another hospitalized in a hit and run in Southwest Miami-Dade early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man and woman were trying to cross U.S. 1 at the intersection of SW 288th Street around midnight.

A white Honda headed north on U.S.1 struck the man and woman. The driver of the Honda stopped but then a small red pickup truck drove by and hit the male pedestrian again. He was knocked out of his shoes and landed past the sidewalk on a small patch of grass.

The driver of the red pickup did not stop.

Distraught family members came to the area and "threatened to go to the house and come back with an AK-47," said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez. Miami-Dade police were called in to control the situation."'

No charges have been filed against the driver of the white Honda who did remain on the scene.

The woman was taken to Homestead Hospital. Her condition has not been released.
