Powder Scare At Ft. Lauderdale Restaurant

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Seven people complained of skin irritations after they came in contact with an unknown powdery substance at a popular Ft. Lauderdale restaurant.

It happened just after 11:30 a.m. at the Bimini Boatyard Bar & Grill on SE 17th Street Causeway.

Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue cordoned off a section of a parking lot and set up a makeshift decontamination booth where the seven people, who complained of burning sensations, were put through a "detox" process and then evaluated to see if they needed to go to the hospital.

Ft. Lauderdale spokesman Matt Little said no one was transported to the hospital.

The Fort Lauderdale HazMat Team tested a sample of the powder and determined that it did not pose a serious public health risk.
