Firefighters Spark School Supplies Drive

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – School is almost back in session and while parents are gathering supplies, Fort Lauderdale firefighters are hoping they'll be able to help out a lot kids who are less fortunate as well.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue has partnered up with Firefighter's Benevolent Association to accept donations up until July 31st from those who would like to give back to their community, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The fire department will be collecting donations in school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, pens and pencils for children who are in the 'Kids In Distress' program.

These kids range from kindergarten throughout the 12th grade and have been abused, neglected or come from broken families and attend public schools with other children.

The KID agency is also accepting new clothes and shoes for the upcoming school year. If you don't have the time to purchase supplies, gift cards for grocery stores or office suppliers or checks made out to Kids In Distress are also welcome.
