Mayor Regalado Appoints Acting City Manager

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado has appointed an Acting City Manager to take over while current City Manager Johnny Martinez recovers from a mild stroke.

Regalado has tapped Assistant City Manager Daniel Alfonso to fill the position until Martinez returns.

"I have total confidence that our executive team can ably manage our city's public services in my absence" said Martinez.

Martinez was hospitalized last Saturday.

As City Manager, Martinez's department supervises about four thousand employees in more than a dozen departments. He also responds to questions and criticisms of the city's five commissioners. It was said earlier this week that Martinez was expected to return to work in the near future.

"I am very confident that Johnny will experience a full recovery and will be returning to work as our City Manager" stated Mayor Regalado.

Martinez was assigned to the position in June, 2011 by Mayor Tomas Regalado.
