Man Missing In Miami Gardens Lake After Accident

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) - Divers searched a lake near Miami Gardens Thursday night after a man fell off a personal watercraft.

Divers and rescue crews were called to the lake on the 4800 block of Northwest 196 Terrace just after 7 p.m. After several hours, the mission changed from rescue to recovery.

Witnesses tell CBS4′s Maggie Newland that several people were playing in the lake when a man on a personal watercraft somehow ended up in the water and yelled for help.

Daniel Baad says the missing man is his friend's father. "We were on the tube doing tricks we let him ride out he was just doing waves doing circles he just slipped off," he said.

Baad said the man called out for his son Brandon to help him. "He called out Brandon's name like four times and me and Brandon jumped in the water. We swam all the way out here I was going under the water i couldn't find him I kept diving I couldn't find him," said Baad.

Recovery divers faced darkness, wind, and rain as they continued to search. "It's hard for our divers to keep up with the currents make sure they stay safe to and the weather is playing a big part in the recovery," said Miami Dade Police Detective Robin Pinkard.

Police say the man was not wearing a life jacket.
