Police Arrest Suspect In Hit & Run With Corrections Officer

MIAMI SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - Police in Miami Springs have arrested a man they believe was involved in a hit and run that nearly cost a state corrections officer his life.

Police arrested Ariangel Iguaran, 32, Thursday morning for the accident that left Lawrence McGill's 1997 purple Dodge Stratus crushed near the intersection of NW 36th Street and Miller Drive in Miami Springs.

Fire Rescue crews on the scene said McGill's legs were trapped and part of the car's door had to be cut open so that McGill could be removed safely.

Detectives said McGill's car was struck by a dark blue, 2006 Chrysler Van. Police said the driver of that vehicle stopped and tried to help McGill but then took off on foot.

Police said that McGill's injuries were not life threatening and that he underwent surgery in the morning at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
