'Dolphin Tale' Sequel To Hit Theaters Fall 2014

CLEARWATER (AP) — Winter the dolphin is returning to the big screen.

Warner Bros. confirmed Wednesday that "Dolphin Tale 2" is scheduled to hit theaters on Sept. 19, 2014.

Winter drew international attention several years ago when she was fitted with a prosthetic tail at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

The first "Dolphin Tale" film — released in 2011 — was inspired by Winter's real-life rescue and rehabilitation. The sequel will focus on another dolphin calf named Hope that was rescued in 2010. Both Hope and Winter remain at Clearwater Marine Aquarium with an older dolphin named Panama.

The new film will again be produced by Alcon Entertainment, with Charles Martin Smith directing.

It isn't yet known if the first film's stars — including Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman and Kris Kristofferson — will be returning.
