Group That Supports Gay Marriage To Launch Campaign

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Not feeling confident that an upcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling will nullify Florida's ban on same sex marriage, a group that supports it is about to launch a public opinion campaign.

Equality Florida said it is starting a new effort to increase support among Floridians for gay marriage.

Executive director Nadine Smith said she believes that a majority of Floridians support the idea, but it will take 60 percent voter approval to overturn the ban passed during the 2008 election.

The group calls the effort "Get Engaged" and will use celebrities, T-shirts, bumper stickers and rallies to get its message out. It will also issue an analysis on what it means to Florida when the Supreme Court rules on California's ban on gay marriage.
