Obama Taps Sloan To Help Close Gitmo Prison
WASHINGTON (CBS4) – President Barack Obama has taken another step toward shutting down prison holding facility at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba.
Officials close to the president said he's chose high-powered Washington attorney Clifford Sloan to be the State Departments special envoy for closing the prison. Sloan has served in senior positions in both Democratic and Republican administrations.
The move fulfills part of the president's pledge to renew efforts to shut down the facility.
A formal announcement on Sloan's appointment is expected Monday.
