More Rain, Storms Headed Our Way

MIAMI (CBS4) - Once again South Florida woke to a gloomy start of the day with mostly cloudy skies with showers. We can pretty much expect to see showers on and off throughout the day.

We could also see some heavy rain in spots with the potential for strong storms due to all the deep tropical moisture streaming in from the tropical disturbance in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the broad area of low pressure we've been watching the past few days has a 50 % chance, a medium potential, of developing into a Tropical depression or the first Tropical storm of the season.

Thunderstorm activity has increased, however the circulation remains poorly organized. There is still a small window of opportunity for this disturbance to strengthen since environmental conditions will become a bit more favorable for some intensification in the next 24 hours. Whether the disturbance is named or not, it will be a heavy rainmaker for most the Sunshine state through Friday.

The forecast models indicate the low pressure area will track to the North and then the North and East possibly towards the Big Bend or the Panhandle. The bulk of the moisture will be to the North and East of this system and there is a concern for localized flooding.

Wednesday afternoon into the evening the National Weather service has warned there is a slight risk for tornadoes and waterspouts for all of South Florida due to the potential of rotation with some of the cells as the low pressure system begins to move closer to Florida.

This weekend is looking a little better. Once the area of low pressure moves towards the mid-Atlantic states Saturday, and the moisture begins to move out, we'll see some improvement. Although Saturday we may see some storms around. Sunday we'll enjoy the return of the sun with highs soaring to the 90s and a few storms.
