Teen Charged With Shooting 15-Year-Old Girl In Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm for allegedly shooting a 15-year-old girl in the chest.

The teenage victim continues to recover after being shot in the chest while sitting on a porch with two other kids in Pompano Beach.

"That's crazy. That's why I keep mine up under me, it's not that I'm trying to shelter here, but that's crazy," said parent Antoya Blunt. "That is so sad. I didn't know anything about it. That's crazy."

"Well, I'm shocked. I'm in shock; it's just crazy," said parent Wayne Beck.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the 15-year-old boy pulled the gun on the victim and told her that he was going to shoot her in the chest.

According to the arrest report, the girl was shot in the upper left chest and two other people at the scene ran from the area. It is reported that after the victim was shot, she walked two blocks to a family member's house before someone called 911.

Investigators said the girl remained conscious throughout. Everyone on scene said she was fortunate to survive. But, for some, the shooting is a stark reminder of the violence that can happen anytime, anywhere.

"I mean I'm a father and definitely I can't imagine. I can't imagine. I cannot imagine what the parents are going through right now," said parent Keith Ireland. "That's sad. I'm praying for her."

According to the BSO, the victim identified the 15-year-old boy as the shooter, as did the other two witnesses at the scene.

BSO said the shooter admitted to shooting the girl in a recorded interview after being told of his Miranda rights. The shooter was on probation for a separate case when the shooting happened.
